Graduates

Upon successful completion of the Programme, graduates will be in a position to prepare themselves for participation in postgraduate studies at doctoral level (EQF Level 8), while they will be able to successfully contribute and work in institutions related to ASD, such as:

  • Special Education and Training School Units (SETSU or SMEAE in Greek)
  • School units for general and vocational education, where pupils with disabilities and/or special educational needs attend
  • Centres for Interdisciplinary Assessment, Counselling and Support (CIACS or KEDASY in Greek)
  • Medical and pedagogical centres of the Ministry of Health, etc.

 

The graduates of the Programme based on the specialisation they will pursue:

  • will have familiarity and knowledge of the epidemiological data relevant to ASD, as well as public health issues and factors associated with ASD.
  • will be able to develop skills of critical appraisal of literature and skills in writing different types of studies.
  • will have familiarity and knowledge of the main features and symptomatology of ASD and understand its neurobiological background.
  • will be able to describe the developmental milestones as well as the main psychopathological entities in childhood and adolescence.
  • will be able to demonstrate skills in exploring the dynamics of families of children with ASD, the problems that may arise, the emotional and other difficulties of parents and siblings, and relevant intervention skills in these situations.
  • will be able to understand the family of a child with ASD and apply the principles of advocacy, counselling for families with a child with ASD, strengthening and empowering parents and siblings.
  • will be able to assess according to their speciality students with ASD and design targeted, individualised curriculum structured and differentiated, inclusive special education intervention pedagogical programmes based on their needs and potential, both within the school context and in different clinical settings.
  • will be able to develop competences in the use of intervention programmes in accordance with the principles and philosophy of the Framework of the Comprehensive Special Education Programme (FCSEP) and based on the needs of people with ASD.
  • will be able to evaluate curricula in education and organise modern learning environments for children with ASD.
  • will be able to use new technologies to design innovative applications in special education and education.
  • will be able to organise ASD-friendly classrooms and school units in accordance with international standards and practices.
  • will be able to interact effectively with a wide range of experts from different disciplines and fields.
  • will be able to understand the function and principles of an effective interdisciplinary team in educational and clinical contexts.
  • will be able to describe diagnostic criteria, co-occurring difficulties and deficits, and behavioural difficulties in ASD.
  • will be able to use clinical tools for the diagnosis of ASD.
  • will be able to apply clinical interventions in ASD, based on theoretical and practical approaches to the management of behavioural problems.
  • will be able to identify key issues related to the adult life of people with ASD and design interventions relevant to the promotion of their health and autonomy.
  • will be able to evaluate issues related to ethical philosophy in health and privacy issues.
  • will be able to implement cutting-edge technological solutions and research work to serve the most vulnerable areas and populations.
  • will be able to develop strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • will be able to lead, mobilise others, plan and effect change to improve the quality of health care, education and training to the population concerned.
