SUMMARY OF ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
Konstantinos Kessanopoulos is a Biologist, MSc, PhD with a B.Sc. in Cell Biology and Physiology with specialization in Microbiology from the Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France, in 1998. In 2009 he completed his PhD thesis at the University of Ioannina Medical School (PhD) in molecular epidemiology of infectious pathogens. By obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) in Public Health from the National School of Public Health (NSH) in 2011, he confirmed his commitment to the field of Public Health and developed the basis for his professional career in the field of Public Health Biology.
During his many years of professional and research experience, from 2001 to 2019, he worked as a biologist-scientist collaborator at the National Meningitis Reference Centre and participated in various National and European research projects, enhancing his knowledge in infectious diseases, their molecular epidemiology and the defence of Public Health from their effects. In terms of research, he has participated as principal investigator or research team member in 20 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and has participated as invited speaker in international and national scientific conferences. Actively involved in the diagnosis and epidemiological surveillance of bacterial meningitis, he has been a quality management officer for the ISO 15189 certification of the National Meningitis Reference Centre.
His main research interests include applications of biology in Public Health, molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases, the study of smoking behaviour and the development of Web-based surveillance systems for their application in health promotion.
Since 2011 he has been actively involved in teaching the postgraduate programmes of the National School of Public Health, and since 2020 he has been involved in teaching the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the Department of Public and Community Health of the School of Public Health of the University of West Attica in his capacity as a Laboratory Teaching Staff Member (LTS) in the Department of Public and Community Health of the School of Public Health.
