Associate Professor of Health Informatics – Health Systems Development
SUMMARY OF ACADEMIC ACTIVITY
Dr. I. Koumpouros holds a PhD with a specialization in Biomedical Technology and Health Informatics and a Master’s Degree (MSc) from the NTUA, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, while he has obtained an Interuniversity Master’s Degree (MBA) in “Techno -Economic Systems”, with the participation of E.M.P., Univ. Piraeus, Univ. of Athens (EKPA), EPISEY-NTU and degree (BSc) from TEI Piraeus, Department of Electrical Engineering. He is an Associate Professor with the subject “Health Informatics – Health Systems Development” at the Department of Public and Community Health, University of Western Attica, while he has taught as Associate Teaching Staff at the Hellenic Open University, as a Lecturer (PD 407/80) at the University of the Aegean, Dept. of Cultural Technology and Communication and as Adjunct Professor at TEI Piraeus, Department of Automation. Mr. Koumpouros is also a Professor/Lecturer at the National Center for Public Administration and Self-Government (EKDDA) on Administration and Project Management and at the Professional Training Institute of EKDDA on (a) Project Administration and Management, (b) Health Services Management and ( c) Administration and Management of Biomedical Technology.
Mr. Koumpouros is the founder and Director of the Research Laboratory of Digital Innovations in Public Health (DigInHealth), of the Department of Public and Community Health of the University of Western Attica (diginhealth.uniwa.gr).
Mr. Koumpouros has significant experience in hospital administration and health policy making. He has served as Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Panarkadian Hospital of Tripoli, Board Memberand General Manager of Secondary Care of the BIOIATRIKI group, Director of Development and Strategic Planning of the EUROCLINIKI group. He also has many years of experience in managing organizations and has worked as a consultant and Director of Research and Development in numerous companies and organizations. For a number of years he was a scientific associate-researcher at the Biomedical Technology Laboratory of NTUA, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, while he has also worked at EKEFE Dimokritos, Institute of Materials Science. He was also a founder and shareholder in numerous companies dealing with telematics applications and ICT. He was also a regular Board Member of the Development Corporation of the Municipality of Peristeri and authorized advisor of the Mayor of Peristeri and Authorized Advisor of the Exhibition Center of the Municipality of Peristeri.
His main research interests include the fields of: telehealth, mobile health, assessment of assistive and supportive technologies, biomedical technology, development of technological innovations for people with special needs, application of ICT in health, education and social networking , health systems planning and management, as well as strategic management and health policy-making.
Dr. Koumbouros has extensive experience in raising, coordinating, managing and organizing community funds for research and development projects. He has participated in more than 40 such projects.
He is an Associate Researcher at the “ATHENA” Research Center. He is an evaluator and independent expert both for the E.U. in matters of electronic health as well as for Greece in a large number of development and research projects of the wider public and private sector. He has also been an independent Peer-Reviewer for the E.U.in many funded projects throughout Europe and an evaluator of investment plans included in the Development Law on behalf of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GRET), as well as a member of the EU expert list for limited invitations in a variety of subject areas.
Mr. Koumpouros is also responsible for the World Health Organization for the development and cultural adaptation in Greek of the WHODAS 2.0 disability assessment and measurement scale (WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0).
